The unmanned victory

I’m trying to figure this out.

According to poll numbers, more people are supportive of the US being in Iraq. Also, people think that the US can win the war, but won’t. They also think that we should withdraw troops.

Does this mean people think we will win if we withdraw troops? How does that work?

(I know it’s logical fallacy to draw these kind of conclusions from poll results. I’m just being silly.)

「眞王陛下からお言葉が下さりました。
最後の箱、鏡の水底は地球にあると。」

Well, who’s surprised by that? I’m certainly not.

:D

What was surprising was the puppet/doll that looked like ユーリの母御

I’m starting to wonder if my theory is off…or maybe they’re planting some stuff to make me think it’s not who I think it is. The actions all make sense with my theory, it’s just that a few of Murata’s comments could go either way. But really, it’s hard for me to believe that all of this craziness isn’t just 眞王‘s way of training ユーリ.

Really wish I could screencap that look on Murata’s face at the end of the episode…セクシー

Serendipity

I could have had a job today.

I went to an interview at a national department store this afternoon. After I filled out the application, it became clear that I was an excellent candidate; unlike the other applicants, I was interviewed by a cheerful saleslady rather than the slightly grumpy HR person, and both women who looked at my resume were very enthusiastic about my education.

“How do you feel about starting…really soon?” the saleslady asked, and I could tell that “really soon” meant “today, if you’re up to it”.

Really,” I said. (You know, the kind of really that’s a question but doesn’t sound like one.)

“Well, we’ve lost some people due to health reasons, and it’s so busy, we need someone now.”

I considered. “There’s nothing stopping me from starting immediately; I don’t have anything else going on. But I was planning on going back to Kentucky for Christmas.”

Do you see that, there? The part where I threw the job out the window? Yeah.

As I drove home, I felt terrible. What should I have done? I asked myself. Cancelled Christmas?

Maybe I should have, if it meant I would finally be gainfully employed.

I got home, checked the mail (It’s a Wonderful Life just arrived from Netflix), let the dogs out, and sat down to whine on my blog about rocks and hard places.

Then my cell phone rang.

“Hi!” came the cheerful male voice on the other end. “This is So-and-So with Regional Magazine. I was wondering if we could get together and talk this week.”

I was referred to this gentleman weeks ago; he’d said he’d call me when he was ready to hire. Now, apparently, he is. I’d be doing page layout and design for hundreds of magazine pages, on a deadline, but with great hours in a laid-back atmosphere.

We set up a lunch meeting for Thursday.

Just think. I could have had a job today.

The weekend

I haven’t really had anything to say this weekend. It’s not that I’ve been particularly busy; it’s just that I come to my journal and think, “What could I possibly talk about?” This has happened before, recently; here’s hoping it doesn’t become a trend.

Yesterday I spent the majority of the day doing laundry. I did four loads. While the laundry was in the washer/dryer, I watched TV. Exciting, eh? The first two Harry Potter movies have been showing on ABC Family, so I watched that, and the first two Back to the Future movies were on TNT. (Why not show the third one? Sheesh.)

In the evening, when the laundry was finally (almost) done, I ran out to Wal-Mart to get Christmas cards and the supplies I needed to make dinner. After dinner Sean and I watched the last disc of Smallville season 2.

I really didn’t sleep well last night. I tried to go to sleep at around 12:30, but Sean stayed up until past 5:30 and his music and pointing and clicking kept waking me up. I actually tried to go to sleep on the couch in the living room at that point, but the noise from the clock bothered me, and then I heard Cheryl getting up to let the dogs out so I retreated back to the bedroom. After Sean finally went to sleep, I did too, and slept until 1 pm.

I spent much of the day in my pajamas. Since Sean was still in bed, I watched TV for awhile, finally choosing to see Daredevil for the first time while I ate my Honey Bunches of Oats. I actually enjoyed the movie, but keep in mind that I don’t know anything about the Daredevil character other than what I saw in that one Hulk movie. (Not that onethat one.) Hai says the fight scenes are terrible, and I imagine he would know. I thought the movie was interesting and cute. (Of course, it was no Spider-Man, and certainly no Spider-Man 2, but what is?)

Eventually I got dressed and ran out to Michael’s with Brooke to grab some markers to do my Christmas cards with. Then I came home and watched Chamber of Secrets while I cooked. (Dinner was chicken alfredo and steamed broccoli, and it was quite good! I velveted the chicken again; I think I’ll just always do that, because damn if it isn’t tasty!)

And that has pretty much been my weekend. I plan to start on the Christmas cards tomorrow. Sean and I are going to try to take a nice picture of ourselves to include :)

Info dump

I want a piano.

I made pancakes this morning. They were even better than the ones Cheryl makes–though, to be fair, I did use more syrup today.

Brooke and I are going shopping.

Anybody know of any software that works similarly to Amazon’s Mechanical Turk? Hmm, that wasn’t very informational.

OC Remix rules.

This is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen! (via Japundit.)

I love to sing, and hear my voice fill up a room.

I used to have a video called “To Noelle from Heather”. I made it when I was a freshman in high school, I think (sometime after Noelle moved away), but I never sent it. It was really neat; it showed what my room looked like back then (full of stuff, but very organized) and it had “interviews” with my family members (I recall that Ben was watching a Hanna-Barbera cartoon, and I commented about how much Hanna-Barbera cartoons sucked). We were between dogs at the time (I showed pictures of Smitty and Toby that I’d stuck on my bulletin board), but we still had parakeets, so there was video of them, too. Towards the end I just babbled on and on about my life, and unfortunately I hadn’t set the camera up properly so when I zoomed it in, it only got my chin and chest…for like twenty minutes, or however long I rambled.

I loved that video because it was like a snapshot of my teenage life. Of course, it was in the apartment :>

I have eaten chocolate every day for weeks now. I think I’m addicted.

Brokeback Mountain

I’ve been hearing about this movie for months and months and months and months (and months). I actually thought it was already out. Apparently not, for now MSNBC has a hilarious article by Dave White entitled “The straight dude’s guide to ‘Brokeback’: Our intrepid gay columnist has sage advice for his straight brethren“.

I actually wasn’t all that interested in seeing the movie until I read this article. But now I’m curious!

(And no, not primarily because of the prospect of guy on guy action, although some of my interests might lead you and Amazon.com to believe otherwise.)

The RSStroom

Oh

Em

Gee.

Slashdot has a story about an RSS feed printer…for toilet paper.

The best part is the “biometrics” toilet seat that’ll figure out who you are based on your weight and prints the news you want – not your roommates tabloid garbage. Going to the rsstroom will never be boring again!

Apparently this is totally fake, but I wouldn’t actually be surprised to hear of something like this coming out of Asia ;D

Yay for Deke

56% of the vote.

A very happy Mr. Copenhaver said he would definitely run for a four-year term next year.

“I’m extremely excited. It’s a mandate for change in Augusta. I firmly feel there are brighter days ahead for Augusta, and we will move forward together as a united community.”

Mr. Copenhaver’s campaign manager, Tim Moses, said Tuesday’s vote showed that people are fed up with the way things have been going in city government and want Augusta to be better.

Former U.S. Rep. Doug Barnard, who had encouraged Mr. Copenhaver, 37, to run, urged Augustans to support the new mayor.

“He was destined to win,” Mr. Barnard said. “He had the fire, the determination and the intellect. If Augusta will get behind him, he will be a success. He will be depending on the citizens of Augusta.”

I know this is old news (like, from, *gasp*, Tuesday), but I just realized I hadn’t said anything on my blog about it :>

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Today I woke up at the ungodly hour of 8:20. I still don’t know why. But I was awake, so I got up, carted the computer into the living room, and got a little work done.

Later in the afternoon, I finally took my shower, and then I watched my latest Netflix offering: Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

(Oh, didn’t I mention that I’ve joined Netflix? I only did it because of the free trial, but, like, I don’t think I can stop…)

Anyway, what a fun movie! I was laughing out loud at how crazy it was. Lots of gunfire and explosions, and plenty of sexy Angelina (well, she is!). My favorite aspect of the film was what drew me to it in the first place: the cliched marital difficulties played out in the middle of gunbattles. Fantastic.

The plot wasn’t stupid, either. At least, not as stupid as I was willing to put up with :) There were some awesome twists that the trailer didn’t suggest. (Just ignore the body counts and you’ll be fine.)

And that scene with Angelina in the dominatrix outfit…well, let’s just say that scene would have totally made the movie, if it weren’t for how it ended :> The hands-down best scene, though, is the one where they’re in the house, and they’re trying to kill each other, and then they–

Well. Maybe you should watch the movie!
