The week of slacking and overeating

So, I haven’t really done anything this week. I did finally do the dishes and get the laundry put away today. Oh, and I showered. That’s an achievement.

I’m finding myself more and more uncertain about my future, both in the long term and in the very very short term.

I’m also finding myself wishing I was in Japan, so desperately that it hurts sometimes. Which is ridiculous. I think I must love it too much. I’ve idealized it. If I ever do get back over there, you watch–I’ll hate it, or something, because I’ve convinced myself it’s the only way I can be happy.

I wonder if I can get a job at a photo lab or with a photographer or something. Presumably I would then learn stuff that I’m interested in.

Bleh. Why don’t all college degree programs mold you into the perfect candidate for a job, so you can pop right into one upon graduation?

Dr. Raven Darktalon Blood

As you know, the darc and mistrious hell-forged action hero will be starring in his very own movie. This weekend, in fact, the creator’s writer friend (and perhaps the creator himself, though this is unclear) will be in Hollywood to hash out the details.

But the biggest news broke just hours ago, and that is which lucky actor has been chosen to bring Dr. Raven Darktalon Blood to life. From the creator’s own mouth:

I saw a couple articles over at Aint it Cool News saying that Burt Reynolds had been chosen for the role and I can assure that’s not true. I think Smokey and the Bandit is the number one best movie ever made, followed closely by Smokey and the Bandit part II- The Bandit Rides Again. However, when Burt auditioned for the lead role in DRDTB he just didn’t have the same fire in his belly that I saw back in 1977. Then I heard that Tom Cruise had mentioned in an interview with Vanity Fair last month that the role was his. It’s true that we looked at Tom for the part but we decided to pass on him after he showed up drunk and proceeded to stumble and slur his way through his audition. In the end we settled on an actor that I had been pushing for since day one. Donnie Wahlberg will be playing the part of Dr. Raven Darktalon Blood and you heard it here first. I told the studio I wanted him because of his stellar work in “Boomtown” but honestly I’m just a huge New Kids fan.

NKOTB for ever!

Excellent.

Darth Vader’s blog

That’s right. The greatest blog in the universe. Via Derik.

I did my famous corpse of Mace Windu imitation, which made Fett snort wine through his nose. “This party’s over,” I quipped, and Fett howled. Long ago Windu was First Speaker of the Jedi High Council, a fierce warrior who slew Boba’s father and tried to kill my master. In vain, of course. These days the Emperor uses Windu’s purple light-sabre to trim his hedges.

Having a bad day

I started out being brave and doing something I’ve never done before. It was fun, but really draining, and I ended up fleeing at the end instead of socializing. When I was done I went to look for some sort of job I can do part time. I went into Borders, bought two books, and didn’t ask about employment. Then I left and went to R. Gabriel’s for a smoothie. I figured I could drive around a little more and just look at places and see if I saw anything that I felt like I could deal with. But my car stalled in the drive-thru, and wouldn’t start again. I had to put it in neutral and let it coast up and out of the drive-thru, then park and go inside to ask for a phone book. The girl inside recommended me to a Lexus dealer, who (of course) told me on the phone that they didn’t work on Subarus. Mentally exhausted, I got back in my car and tried again. It miraculously started. I went home.

So I have to get my car looked at, and I’m not any closer to finding paying work. My self-confidence is at an all-time low; I’m even starting to feel like I won’t be able to handle my internship, that it isn’t “for me”, that I should just give up.

Obviously, I’m not letting myself make any decisions while I’m in this state. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. In the meantime, I’m trying to smother my feelings with food. It’s not really working so well, but maybe the ginormous hamburger I sent Sean to get for me will help.

You mean there’s more to the world than the US and Japan?!

I’ve subscribed to a food blog from a guy living in Saigon called noodlepie (the author refers to himself as “pieman” :D). From there, I found this website, with this short but interesting article and this book review (which prompted me to stick the book on my Amazon wish list). I also discovered Global Voices, an aggregator of world blogs, so I subscribed to that as well.

So much to read, so little time…

Okay, I like Malachite.

(I do wonder if Wednesday came up with that name…)

There was a moment during the Keith/Trudy banter that amused me, but this is the first time I’ve actually laughed. Yay for Malachite!

I don’t particularly want to be awake right now.

When Sean came to bed earlier, I woke up, and we snuggled a little. Then he fell asleep, and I lay there for a long time, but couldn’t do the same.

I got up and closed the window and deck door and turned on the AC, thinking that maybe I was just too hot. But I still couldn’t sleep. I’d left something undone, and my gut was giving me hell about it.

When I’d finally had enough of my twisting insides, I got up and dealt with the thing. Now I’m just going back and forth to the same websites, bored. I am chatting with Hai, which is good, and Jered’s also on and we’ve exchanged a few pleasantries. Nice to know he’s still alive :> But for the most part, I’m not doing anything worthwhile. Just sitting here surfing, with Naruto OST 3 in the background.

I’d like to go back to bed, but I’m not sure if I would be able to get to sleep.

Today I applied for an internship in graphic design via email. I also made a couple of calls, the first to the company offering the internship and the second to the local paper asking if an internship there as a copy editor is possible. I didn’t speak with a person either time, so I hope my voice mail messages weren’t horrible. I’ll try calling again tomorrow, I suppose.

Don turned me on to a meeting of the local advertisers’ association that’s happening this Thursday, so I RSVPed for it and will attend, resumes in hand. I hope I can find something interesting to do that involves design, and that won’t require me to go back to school. I’m getting the feeling that I will need to go back anyway, but I would like to be able to get some sort of job in the meantime. (And, you know, not abhor it.)

I rearranged my desk yesterday. Here are some pics:

Yes, lovely wires. I don’t care. :P I’m just happy to have that hutch moved back some. It makes me feel less claustrophobic. It also means I can now look immediately to my left and see a calendar, which I think will really help my scheduling issues. (I still haven’t found any calendar software that works for me.)

The wall over the rest of my desk and the server and the area around the four drawer filing cabinet seems really empty now. Not sure what I want to do about that, if anything.

I knew it

Templeton Peck
You are 20% crazy and 50% bad-assed.
Better known to your friends as ‘face,’ you are truly suave and debonair. There isn’t a skirt out there that you can’t charm the pants off of. Nobody can deny you anything. You’ll always get your way. Whether it’s picking up your three piece from the dry cleaner early or getting your best friend out of the military asylum, just flash those pearly whites and everything will be OK.

My test tracked 2 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 11% on lunacy
You scored higher than 35% on bad-itude
